Art Hock first saw Crumpton when he was in his late teens. When he first approached the town by Crumpton Lane, he was profoundly impressed by the view of the white oyster shell road at his this feet, green weeping willows above the road, the old drawbridge and the town before him, and the scenic Chester River to his left and right. He decided that what he saw was where he would like to spend the rest of his life. With brief exceptions, that is what he did.


In 1976, the year before Art's death, he recorded, in the form of an audio "guided tour", his recollections of the town as it was in the early 1920s -- all of its streets and adjacent roads, its houses, stores, and people -- who they were  and what they did.
